HALINA AND HESCHEL

An Appreciation of Dr. Heschel, eulogy by Halina Wind Preston (1922-82), survivor of 14 months in the sewers of Nazi-occupied Lviv 1943-44. Memorial service 1/21/73 for Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel (1907-72), scholar, philosopher, civil rights activist who was her teacher at Jewish Theological Seminary of America. It was Heschel who opened and read her first letter to her brother announcing her survival, which arrived at the seminary in 1945. Audio digitized and transcribed in 2025. (See below.)
